Hi there! If you're engaged, congratulations! This is an exciting time in your life. It also might be a little chaotic if you're trying to plan your wedding. Amidst all the chaos, you might be thinking, why do we need to add engagement photos to the list? I'm here to provide a few reasons why I think an engagement session with your wedding photographer can be a great idea.
1. we get to know each other better
I get it, it sounds like I'm just trying to get another session in, but hear me out -- having more time together prior to your wedding day is incredibly helpful. We get more comfortable with each other, I can learn which types of prompts and images you like, and you get the chance to see how I work and ask any questions before the big day. You'll be able to feel more confident in your decision to hire me, and on your wedding we won't be total strangers. This is one of the main reasons I like to include engagement sessions in my wedding packages, because I often find them to be beneficial for all of us.
2. you'll feel more comfortable in front of the camera
Even as a photographer myself, I can totally understand the fear and nervousness around having a camera pointed at you. Let's face it, most of us don't have that happen to us on a daily basis, so it can feel very unnatural and uncomfortable. It can feel even more intimidating when it's a professional photographer, and not just a friend taking photos on their phone. Having an extra hour or two can shake those jitters and bring some familiarity to the experience.
3. you'll have beautiful images for invites, save the dates, etc.
Having recent, professional photos of you two makes other parts of wedding planning easier -- you won't have to go digging up old, pixellated images and instead will have brand-new, beautiful photos you can include in save-the-dates, invites, your wedding website, and more.
4. they're a low-pressure way to connect
Wedding planning can be stressful, and it's nice to have an opportunity to connect with each other in a low-pressure, fun way before or during all of the craziness. Many of my couples make a date night out of it, scheduling a dinner reservation or walking around town after our session. This is a chance for you to celebrate your love and get excited for everything you have to look forward to!
